FAME the Musical Playbill, July 2016

Many people have asked me the question, why FAME for one of our very first productions? While there are many answers to that question that involve a more technical side of theatre, production and casting, the biggest reason for me was that the story told in FAME, is one that we can all benefit from being reminded of.

There was a time when we were all young… hopeful… dreaming. We were discovering ourselves and the world and our passions. Over the course of time, we tend to lose sight of those parts of ourselves. We get caught up in the things in life that take our attention away, be it technology, politics, finances or work. We stop searching, working… dreaming. At a time when the world and the country is suffering and hurting, I did not feel that there was a better story to tell than of these young, talented hopefuls dreaming for tomorrow and being excited about what they can offer and what their futures hold.

I chose to open BARCLAY Performing Arts to continue to breed dreamers. To continue to bring to this world individuals who believe in following their hearts, using their voices, and believing in who they are and who they can be.

Today you are going to see a group of young people who are playing roles incredibly similar to who they each are. These cast members come from different backgrounds, are of different ethnicities, and came together this summer for one reason - to discover who they really are and offer it to you. To share the human condition and inspire you to remember to dream, to fight and to be inspired.

As adults, it is our responsibility to lead by example. It can be easy to forget how very important the example we set is. So let’s sit back today and watch and listen. Let’s learn from our youth that all we need to do each day is wake up and strive to be the very best version of ourselves that we can be.

“Bring on tomorrow, let it shine. Like the sun coming up on a beautiful day it’s yours and mine. We can make a difference, it’s not too late. Bring on tomorrow, we can’t wait.”

Thank you for joining us for our pilot summer, we hope you enjoy the show!
